The exist motor was slip ring motor, and it was designed to be started via very big resistor bank.

DISADVANTEGES OF THE OLD SYSTEM:

– problems in the motor slip rings

– Motor need regular maintenance.

– the speed change by six steps and it is not accurate.

– High starting current

ADVANTEGES OF THE NEW SYSTEM:

– The mtor rings were short circuited, so all the problems due to rings and brushes were canceled.

– The speed change became smoth, and accurate.

– The starting current is within the motor rated current
